The ten brothers soon reached Egypt and were brought before minister Joseph.Joseph immediately recognized his brothers but put on a stern face .His brothers had not recognized him .They bowed to him just as once Joseph had seen in his dream .

'Where do you come from ?' Joseph asked sternly through an interpreter .'We have come from Canaan to buy grains ,said the brothers . 'You lie !' said Joseph , 'you are spies . ' The brothers protested , growing afraid. 'Then, tell me about yourself,inquired Joseph.
'We were twelve brothers. One among us is dead while the youngest is with our father in Canaan . Our father won't part with him,' said the brothers. 'Prove your innocence. Bring your youngest brother here. One among you shall be held hostage until you all will return ,'said Joseph.

Immediately, on Joseph's orders, Simon was held hostage  before the brothers could understand anything. Then, he ordered his brothers' sacks to be filled with grains. It was done likewise.

Joseph's brothers went towards Canaan with a heavy heart. Meanwhile, by behaving in this manner, Joseph wanted to know if his brothers had changed from their cruel selves or not.
